Colbrunn Ct. Festival Lighting

Colbrunn Court is a hub of activity and a gathering space for festivals waiting to happen. As a unique block of Old Colorado City, Colbrunn is surrounded by shops, Bancroft Park, the Old Colorado City Library, and Colorado Avenue itself.

Colorado Lighting, Inc. has wrapped up their work and the ribbon cutting ceremony July 9th, 2021 was a great success!

From Street to Festival Meet-and-Greet

Background

Colbrunn Court is an underutilized, small street adjacent to Bancroft Park that is ripe for an alternative use. The short street is bordered by retail space, Bancroft Park, the Old Colorado City Library, and Colorado Avenue itself. The OCC Partnership would like to see this street utilized as a “festival area” with permanent overhead string lighting adorning the space to further promote tourism and local consumer traffic to the OCC area. Additionally, the extra people in the area, as well as the extra lighting will promote safety and security in Bancroft Park.

Goals

• Permanently install lighting over Colbrunn Court for year-round ambiance and cheer by the end of 2020
• Hold a public fundraising event for community involvement such as a progressive dinner. (Thanks to the El Paso County Relief Grant and generous donors, we've raised the necessary funds!)
• Promote events to be held along Colbrunn Court, and in tandem, the OCC area

Progress

OCCP was awarded $110k from the City’s Lodgers and Automobile Rental Tax (LART) for festival lighting and removable barricades on Colbrunn Court. This will help close off the street during park events and activate a pedestrian–friendly road and bring families outside to a unique experience under the lights. Additionally, the extra people in the area, as well as the extra lighting, will promote safety and security in Bancroft Park.

Last year, we asked for help from the community and you came through.  With generous donations from businesses, individuals, and the El Paso County Relief Grant, we were able to reach our goal so we could bring the light.
